Schedule Practice

Set up your schedule's people, shifts and rules, then watch it build a month. Nothing leaves this computer.

Welcome

This is a practice copy of a scheduler. You describe your program the way you'd explain it to a new chief, and it drafts a month for you to check.

  1. Your program: a name and a colour.
  2. Your people: paste the names.
  3. Your shifts: for example Days, Nights, Consults.
  4. Your rules: in plain English, like "Dr. Lastname never works nights".
  5. Build a month: a real calculator fills the calendar; see which rules held.
  6. Your schedule: an Excel file, a printable calendar and calendar files for everyone, as one file to send back.

About 15 minutes. It saves as you go in this browser, so you can close it and come back. Nothing is uploaded anywhere: there is no account, no internet connection and no email sent.

Use the schedule you have today, in any layout: dates down the side or across the top, one row per shift, a month calendar, one sheet per month, or an export from AMiON or QGenda. Pick a roster file at the same time if you have one. It is read here in your browser.

1. Your program

Just enough to put a name on the calendar.

2. Your people

Everyone who can be put on the schedule. One person per line. Initials are made for you; add your own after a comma if you already use them (Full Name, FN).
Or (.xlsx or .csv) with a column of names, and optionally a column of initials.

3. Your shifts

The jobs someone has to cover. Say how many people each one needs, and which days it runs.
Shift namePeople a dayRuns onOn call?
Mark the overnight or call shift On call; then rules can just say "call", and it keeps running on days you close (holidays).

4. Your rules

Write each rule on its own line, the way you'd say it out loud. Include the unwritten ones. Use "never" or "only" for must-rules and "prefers" or "should" for wishes. Click an example to add it.

5. Build a month

A real schedule calculator fills every shift without breaking a must-rule, and gets as close to every wish and fair share as it can. Then change any name in the calendar to see a rule catch it.

6. Your schedule

Take it with you. The Excel file is the schedule laid out like a spreadsheet, and it also carries your whole setup, so it's the one file to keep or send.

    Calendar files

Each person can add their shifts to Outlook, Google Calendar or their phone: open the file and choose Add.

    Send it
